A Mind Focused

A Mind Focused

For to be carnally minded (a mindset focused on world desires), is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind (a mindset focused on here and now) is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. Rom 8:6-7

That last line means that the carnal (fleshly) mind is inherently rebellious and incapable of obeying God's law—it resists divine authority and cannot submit to it.

Society, secular society that is, has for the last 100 years tried to separate us from the fact that we are made in God’s image.  They have tried very hard to give us new identities.  Identities of homosexuality, transgenderism, white, black, or various other less intrusive ideas of who we are, separating us from the knowledge of God.

In the 1950’s it was gangs. Niki Cruz wrote many excellent books about his finding acceptance and identity in the worst gang in New York City. Everyone should read Run Baby Run. The remarkable story of how God found and saved a young man who had learned to kill at a young age, and found love and acceptance in the most notorious gang in New York City.

In the 1960’s it was free sex. All you want, along with love and rock-n-role. A club of sorts called Hippies, where you could fine love and acceptance. Homosexuality was beginning to be a subset of this free love generation.

The 1970s was the rise of Individualism and Escapism. "Do your own thing."  The 70s saw a shift from collective rebellion to personal liberation. Disco, drugs, and the sexual revolution deepened. (No wonder I got messed up)

1980s – Materialism and the Worship of Success. "Greed is good." The 80s glorified wealth, power, and image. Wall Street, designer brands, and the rise of consumer culture promised identity through possessions and status. A subtle idolatry of self-sufficiency and achievement over dependence on God. (No wonder I struggled with money)

1990s – Digital Distraction and Postmodernism. “Truth is whatever you want it to be." The internet began reshaping identity and community. Postmodern thought questioned absolute truth, and irony replaced conviction. A generation unsure of what to believe, increasingly disconnected from biblical foundations.(No wonder I was confused)

2000s – Hyperconnectivity and Identity Fragmentation. “Be whoever you want to be—online." Social media exploded. Identity became curated, performative, and fluid. The rise of online tribes replaced traditional communities. Validation through likes, followers, and digital personas.(Too old by this time to be caught up in this)

2010s–2020s – Mental Health, Activism, and Identity Politics. “Your truth is your power." Mental health awareness grew, but so did anxiety and depression. Identity politics and intersectionality became dominant frameworks. Gender and sexuality were redefined. (Knew the Truth of His Word now. I was protected!)

Each new generation has its own calling card. A calling card of identity, so called truth and its form of sexual freedom. Beckoning one to be apart and find the hearts desire for love. But it’s always a lie and it never satisfies. It only leads to death.

Now, go back and read Romans 8:6-7 again. There you will find the answer for ever generation’s identity struggles. Satan WANTS you looking at you and your group, verses looking to God and what He says about you. No wonder we have such a crisis in the US. We are carnally minded.

Blessings
